Personality:
Amelie is best referred to as the "straight man" among her circle of friends. Due to her upraising she grew up mature and calm, the type of female that would often find herself taking care of those around her if only because she was the only one who remained calm enough to do so. While she certainly cannot be considered a wall-flower though she often goes unnoticed mainly because of the people that she has surrounded herself with. The sort of siblings she had growing up, one who had a tendency to set things aflame, made her often go unnoticed. Despite this she holds no ill-bearings towards any of her siblings at all as she had always taken it upon herself as the eldest female to watch after them. Even if she is calm it does not mean that she cannot be short-tempered at times and despite all affection she may have for her family, they have a tendency to draw this trait out.
Unlike her father she is quicker to forgive and forget past grievances. Put simply she is a people-pleaser though she may be selective towards those she wants to make happy. A positive effect this held over her personality is that Amelie is a diligent, hard-worker however; she is often taken advantage of and hurt by those who repeat the very same actions she was upset about earlier. Even acknowledging this she continues to hold a firm belief in second chances. She is not the type to easily give up her beliefs even if these very same beliefs will often prove her to be a bit of a hypocrite. Amelie understands that what she preaches is often contradicting to what she does but she is not willing to give up those standards. They give her something to strive for and in a sense, they alleviate her guilt. So long as she can hold a strong belief in her morals then it is alright for her to falter away from them time from time.
Despite her mature nature Amelie is also something of a trickster and a manipulator with quite a bit of sass on the side depending on her mood. Being playful and the urge to tease often leads her to hurt those she does not mean to hurt as she doesn't realize she has pushed past boundary until it's too late. She will not intentionally hurt those she is teasing as often she only teases those most important to her but it is done so often none the less. Complimenting and balancing this trait is how easily she can feel guilt; more often than not she is the first to apologize and ask for forgiveness for even things that others do not even recall. If she does not feel that she has apologized appropriately for what she has done wrong to those she loves it will drive her absolutely insane.
History:
Growing up as a child Amelie had a sweet and quiet disposition as that made her appealing to friends of her parents as did her shy nature and natural inclination to smile brightly at those who crossed her path. Traits such as those made her desirable as a daughter but as the newest intrusion to the life of her siblings, it made her susceptible to being pushed around and bullied by them. She was the third-born child and the eldest female of the family and where her parents were overjoyed to have a daughter, it would take her brothers a bit more time of adjustment.
Her siblings would not be the only ones to make life difficult. At school she would find herself dragged into fights by peers that she did not want to involve herself in and often she was helpless to stop it. Many times the students would even manage to twist the fight around enough to make it seem as if she were the reason for it when really she was just a means to their own purposes. In other certain fights she became a sort of “prize” for the students. Often times she would even find herself subjected to that student’s whims. It would not be until she left primary school that she began to stand on her own two feet.
As Amelie began to grow older she found herself developing a deep connection with a Spaniard that William was not nearly so fond of. Unlike her brothers she enjoyed the male’s company. He was older than her but he also provided her with a sort of protection that she did not feel very often when surrounded by those who were her own age rather than adults. True, she had her fair share of fights with him but never to the violent nature or with as much hatred as her older brothers did. In fact, bit by bit she began to feel a loyalty towards this male while her own family found displeasure in him.
Time passed on and in high school Amelie had finally grown more into the female that she is today. She wouldn't stand for being pushed around anymore by other students and no longer even bothered to act as if she was meek and submissive as it always lead to more troubles than standing up for herself ever did. For the Belgian high school was a chance to start over and that is just what she did. The best years of her life lied within that place and lead her to the conviction to become a doctor. Before she had been unsure of where her career path would lie but in her senior year it was decided that pre-medicine was the route to take. With that conviction Amelie entered college to earn her degree and later on as a part of a work-study program, was offered the opportunity to work under a doctor at another college.
Sample Post:
“Don’t go away without me please…Please don’t leave without me. I can go with you. We could leave together…”
Amelie felt her body jolt upright with a sharp gasp, her body struggling to take in oxygen as if she had just dragged herself out from beneath the murky waters. Instinctively she felt her fingers twitch, searching as they always did on nights like these for a cigarette and some decent beer. The scent of the smoke calmed her while the taste of the beer fuzzed her mind just enough to distract; the perfect remedy to her hellish memories that seemed to be missing on this night of all nights. Usually the Belgian managed to avoid being dependent on her little home “remedy” but some things were simply too much.
“We could leave right now. I could run upstairs and I could pack my suitcases and we could leave together. Vader and Moeder aren’t here. They wouldn’t need to know…”
A slender hand pressed against her sweating forehead as she pulled her knees in and hid her head in-between them, trying to block out the words of her childhood. Amelie didn’t want to think back to those days. She didn’t want to hear own desperate voice pleading over and over again to let her go with him. She didn’t want to remember the feel of his warm hand wrapped up in her own even as his hug was cold and stiff. Sometimes there were certain things that were better off forgotten and left in the past. What she thought she had shared with William as a fifteen-year-old child was certainly one…
“I could leave them a note and then we could run away together. They’ve left me with more than enough money that we could manage on our own. An-and I’ve saved up a lot of my allowance too so we really could do it. I’m not just making this up…”
Why hadn’t she known better as a child? Why had she been such a naïve girl as to think that he would take her with him? Looking back at it now ten years later, Amelie couldn’t help but grimace in disdain at just how stupid she had been. Any other girl at that age would have known better than to think that so long as she loved him, everything would turn out alright. William had been twenty-two-years-old those days after the incident; what kind of twenty-two-year-old would possibly consider taking his fifteen-year-old, foster sister with him? Then again, what fifteen-year-old girl was stupid enough to believe that somebody like William loved her?
“I don’t mind traveling if I’m with you. We could go really far away where they can’t find us. Buy our own little house with a small garden full of tulips just outside the backdoor.”
“I need to go for a run…” Amelie whispered softly to herself, “A good, nice, long run. I’ll be fine…going on my own…” Her words hung in the air for a moment as she lifted her head back up to take in the blaring red numbers of her digital clock: 5:27 A.M. Not that bad of a time for a jog in all honesty. Those with an active nightlife were already settling back into their homes while those of sane minds and normal lives would stay asleep for at least another good hour or so. There would be very few people to run into at this time of day.
“Don’t you think that would sound nice? I could tend to the tulip garden and then make you meals everyday. If we really wanted to I could hire a private tutor to keep up with my studies if that’s what is worrying you. And I’m sure I could find a job if we needed more money.”
Less than twenty minutes later Amelie stepped outside of her home, locking the door securely behind her before turning towards the sidewalk with a cattish stretch of her arms and a small yawn. A dark red ribbon held her blonde bangs back from her jade green eyes but otherwise she left the short, wavy locks well enough alone. This early in the morning she didn’t see the use of putting in the effort to look less scruffy. It wasn’t exactly like she was going out to visit anybody important or was expecting to run into anybody that was worth looking presentable for.
“Just…just please let me go with you, William. I promise to not be troublesome; I’ll be helpful in fact! You love me, don’t you? Please let me go with you if you love me…please…”
A deep breath, a last ditch attempt to block her soft, pleading voice from her mind’s ear before her feet were pounding into the ground at a hard pace. Amelie didn’t bother to start it off with a nice, slow jog to warm-up; she simply took off as if Hell’s Angels were in pursuit. If she ran fast enough, if she ran hard enough, then she would become so exhausted physically that there would be no room to think of anything beyond her pained body. Right now that was what she wanted more than anything else; so desperate for it in fact, that she didn’t even notice the figure just in line of her sight as she barreled into the warm flesh and found herself sprawled onto the ground.
“Da-damn it!” Jade green eyes flickered down to her scratched hands with a slight wince before she realized that she had just run into another and scrambled up quickly to her feet, offering the slightly less injured hand down. “I’m so sorry. I was running so fast and just out of it that I didn’t even notice you. Are you alright?”
