Erik staands at aproximatley 5'8 (or 175 cm) and usualy carries an expresion impossible to read. He mainly wears navy blue clothes, and has a tendency to dress like a sailor when not at work.
Name: Erik Sørensen [Norway]
Age: 28
Academic Goals: Teach those kids a thing or two about science
(He himself holds a major in Engerneering Sciences and Marine Biology)
Year: This is his first time teaching
Occupation: Teacher (Science and Biology)
Likes:
+ Coffee (Will easily drink 10 cups a day)
+ Nature/the outdoors (f he's not teaching or drinking coffee, he's going for walks)
+ Peace and quiet
+ Alcohol (you'd never guess it by his looks - but he can hold his liquor)
+ Fairy tales, legends and myths (Sure, he's not supposed to believe in those things - but they bring back good memories)
+ Traditions (things reminding fairly unchanged)
+ Fave class: Science and Biology, but is quite fond of History and Religious studies as well (soft spot for Gym/P.E as he's very much an outdoor man)
+ His 'Harding' Fiddle (Only instrument he plays - not that he ever tells anyone)
+ Hidden fondness of (symphonic) Death Metal
Dislikes:
- loud, obnoxious people
- very warm and dry places
- 'brainless'/meaningless pop music
- Close minded people
- Public displays of affection
- (Is not fond of Art class, as he doesn't see much point in a subject that will hardly ensure a stable career)
Personality:
Erik at first glance appears to be a cold and uncaring person - this is only partly correct. He's not very good at socializing with new people, and has at times a rather odd and morbid sense of humor. He prefers to stay quiet and will often think through his replies or comments to others, as he's not too fond of trouble or fights; Erik prefers diplomatic and peaceful solutions as opposed to violence.
Often people seem to find him rude or very blunt with his sarcastic remarks - in reality he doesn't really mean any harm by it, his monotone voice simply makes everything he says sound rather like an insult (and like mentioned before, he has an odd sense of humor).
This is not to say he's always calm and collected, press the wrong buttons for too long and a fierce and vicious personality will arise - and once that side of him has awoken, it can be difficult to calm him again.
Erik is like the sea he was born close to; unpredictable. Calm and warm one moment, vicious and cold the next.
He can also be rather whimsical, miss placing his reading glasses is a daily occurrence and he's known for being able to just stare into nothing for a long period of time (although that's partly due to lack of sleep)
While cold and uncaring to new people or those he does not trust, once you've gotten through the thick walls of ice guarding his heart, Erik is loyal, helpful and very friendly
The same effects can occasionally be achieved if he's given a substantial amount of alcohol or coffee and sweets.
A little known fact - that he prefers to keep hidden- is that he suffers from 'self-induced' insomnia. Erik has occasionally nightmares so terrifying, that leave him so scared, that when he wakes up; he does not want to go back to sleep again for a long while. This has been going on for quite some time and to counter the tiredness he drinks a lot of coffee. In fact, the Norwegian male is seldom seen without a coffee cup or mug somewhere close to his person. His nightmares are almost always about him finding himself abandoned and forgotten by everyone. He's never told anyone about this, but he suspects his younger brother has noticed something is wrong.
He's of course too stubborn to get help and prefers to deal with it in his own
While he believes in hard work and praising others, he can be rather depressing and pessimistic when it comes to himself and his own achievements. He can't stand bragging or people who are overly proud of their own achievements, and will not hesitate to send such people verbal 'jabs' to deflate their ego a few notches.
Strengths:
+ A thinker and diplomat (peace and quiet over loud brawls)
+ Calculation (He's not stupid - and will think (most) things thoroughly )
+ Silent (Silence is golden and he'd rather be quiet than say something idiotic)
+ Tidy and organised
Weaknesses:
- Insomnia (it can make life hell for him and others)
- Terrified of being completely alone (when it's outside of his own jurisdiction)
- Blunt (to the point most consider him rude - has few friends due to this)
- Whimsical (He'll suddenly do things no one expected - not even himself)
- Slight OCD - comes from working with dangerous chemicals - if you don't know where stuff is, things can go very, very wrong
- Pessimistic at times
- Complains (just to complain really...nothing to it)
- Art - He's just not that kind of creative, and finds it rather useless
History:
Erik was born outside of Bergen, Norway. At the age of 8 his family moved to Asker, outside of Oslo. Erik's father worked in a Norwegian Oil company while his mother got a job when he was 9 at a restaurant as a chef. Because of this his parents where seldom home and he learned quickly how to be independent and manage things on his own. Despite this he still found time to care for his little brother and study hard for school. While he might not show it, Erik cares deeply for his family, his younger brother especially - and would go great lengths to help them.
At first he wanted to be a sailor and travel the world, but as he got older he realized that was not very safe economically, so he turned his attention to Science and Biological Subjects, aiming for a job in the Oil industry like his father.
After graduating from The University in Oslo with top grades in Marine biology and Engineering sciences, Erik fully intended to get a job on one of the many oil platforms scattered in the Norwegian Sea. However, by a twist of faith he found a job vacancy as a Science and Biology teacher at Bluterra Academy. The job not only offered a good pay, but it enabled him to travel slightly further away from his home country and hopefully get more contacts and broaden his horizons (and the more contacts, the better his chances are at doing well in business some time in the future). While a bit nervous to be working with teenagers, Erik sees it as a challenge and accepted the job at the Academy.
He's never taught others (unless you count trying to help his idiotic classmate pass their exams), however, Erik considers himself a person with a lot of patience and is no stranger to 'harsh' environment's. A class full of unruly 'kids'? No problem - there's always dangerous chemicals to threaten them with.
((will potentially add or revise the history if we get an Iceland))

*here, have an overly long post from another RP site* (because at 4 in the morning, this seems like a good idea) [//shot]
Nikolaas smiled "Sounds good Zus. Follow me if you would be so kind..." He walked out of the office and headed down for the surgery ward. A nurse had already explained to the patient what would be happening, so Netherlands got straight to changing and washing his hands, taking care to wash all the way up to his elbows. A few surgical nurses helped him and Belle get into the 'smocks' and masks, and as much as he hated them, the stupid hats as well, that of course never really looked good on anyone.
The man had already been sent of to dreamland, the anesthetics nurses making sure his feet where kept warm and his arms not in a position that would render them in the way for the surgical team, or make the man uncomfortable when he finally woke up. After all, even if he was drugged up, he could still wake up after-wards and feel pain, so it was always best to ensure a patient was relatively comfortable before surgery.
Nikolaas knew he would have to make and incision in the man's abdomen, and carefully remove the mans large intestine. He would then take part of the smaller intestine, 'coil' it up and stitch it together, creating a 'pouch' that would act as a substitute large intestine for the man. Ahh~ the wonders of medical science.
One of the other nurses had already shaved the patient of any body hair that might come in the way for the surgical procedure. Great, that saved him or Belle having to do that. Screw being a doctor and not supposed to really care, shaving a hairy man was something he absolutely hated...he always found some nurse to do it for him. One of the nurses apparently had a bit of a fetish for doing it too...a bit too skillful with the razor you could say. Oh well, done was done.
He positioned himself at the operating table and ordered a nurse to disinfect the exposed skin of the patient. He turned quickly to Belle to see if she was alright, and keeping up "If you could come over here Miss Vanackere and help with the incision, it would be great." It was always odd calling his Zus by her last name, but at work it made more sense, although he had often overheard nurses and doctors wonder why they - who where supposedly siblings - had different last names. So far Nikolaas had avoided any direct question of that kind, but he presumed he'd just make up some excuse about stupid parents or something if he ever was asked.
"Scalpel" he ordered out to the nearby nurse, pointing for Belle to stand on the other side of the patient, ready with tweezers to hold the skin away while he cut away the infected intestine. There was no 'please' in a surgery room...occasionally a 'thank you' but even that was rare.
Netherland started to make the incision about a cm. above the mans' belly-button, cutting downwards towards his privates, taking care to cut around the belly-button, and not straight trough it - that would lead to the man having no belly-button, and for some odd reason, people tended to be quite fond of them, and would make a huge fuzz if one ended up removing it...Humans are odd like that.
The incision was about 14 cm and Nikkolas ordered his sister to help hold the pieces of skin and fat away while another nurse help keep the incision free of too much flowing blood. The man's infected intestine was, to be frank, not looking well at all. Nikolaas carefully dug a gloved hand down and started cutting it away, taking care not too remove too much - if he did the man would have to always have a stoma. And while a lot of patients didn't mind having a bag on their stomach collecting the waste, this patient had expressed a wish that he'd like to have the stoma bag for as little as possible.
After an two hours, they had succeeded in removing the man's large intestine, and sent it of to the lab. Nikolaas found it rather stupid, they already knew what was wrong, but some idiot probably wanted it in a jar just for the hell of it. Some of those people down at the labs where down right creepy...One thing was staring down at a living beating heart during surgery..but having hearts on jars, row upon row? Nope...definitely a bit odd those guys.
With the help of Belle (who he was oh-so-very-nicely ordering about) they measured out the length they would need to use to make the pouch out of the small intestine. once that was done they could start the process of cutting and stitching the 'coiled' up intestine into a pouch, before conjoining it to the very last remaining snippet of large intestine - close to the rectum.
Once they had constructed the make-shift intestine and carefully placed in back correctly in the man's abdomen, another hour had passed. Now came the part of creating a hole in the abdomen wall.
Due to them having created the pouch and removed the large intestine in one go, the man would only need a very small surgery in 6 moths or so, so 'put every thing back' as they so nicely liked to put it. Taking some of the small intestine a few centimeter up from where the new make-shift large intestine had been created from, Nikolaas made an incision in it, not cutting it in two, but making just a big enough hole that the intestine could be bent and brought out through the hole on the abdomen, where it was stitched to the outer skin, holding it in place.
The intestine was glistening a vibrant red - and while many though that was disturbing, it was actually a very good sign - it meant it was healthy. And for someone with Chron's Disease, this was very good news.
Once the intestine had been brought out and secured with surgical thread to the abdomen, it resembled a garden hose, cut into and bent over, revealing two red 'holes'. It was odd how most adults found it disgusting, but for the unlucky children who where more or less born with a disease, and had to have the surgery at a young age - they found it fascinating. Children where after all better at adapting. Under his mask Nikolaas could help but smile at the though. Grown-ups where just too vain sometimes.
They had been in the surgery room for well over 3 hours, but it was finally over. Nikolaas got Belle to hold the mans' skin together while he carefully stitched it back together. First on the inside, and then the outer site of the abdomen. A new device had been given to them, which basically meant stitches on the outside could be done with staples. It was quicker, easier to remove once the wound had healed, and usually meant the scar ended up looking nicer. however, it did mean that for a week the patient would look like he had a giant zipper on his stomach. It always made him want to giggle.
"Right! Well done everyone! Now wheel him out of here and get him to the intensive care ward" Nikolas ordered more nurses around while one of the by-stander ones helped him and Belle get out of their now rather blood stained gloves and scrubs. Once the mask and stupid hat had been removed he got right to washing his arms again - just to be on the safe side. While drying his arms he smiled at Belle. "Well Done Zus, Thanks for all the help. You did well. You better hurry off now, before someone tells you to stay and do stupid tasks again" He gave her a hearty smile before turning and walking back to his office.
